(PR.co.nz) The Dunedin Public Libraries are getting into full swing for the Scottish Festival.
The Library festivities start at midnight on Saturday 20 November, when the online entry form for the 2011 Robert Burns Poetry Competition goes ‘live’ for the first time at www.dunedinlibraries.govt.nz.
While people across New Zealand write poetry inspired by the life or works of Robert Burns, children at Mosgiel Library will be treated to a special Scottish Story Time session on Tuesday 23 November from 11.00am.
Adults interested in tracing their Scottish heritage will be able to gather in the City Library on Wednesday 24 November from 2.00pm where they will be given hot tips by Professor Marjory Harper from the University of Aberdeen, on how to dig into the past for clues still buried in Scotland.
For those with a love of literature, Tom McLean from the University of Otago, will provide an inspiring lunchtime session on Friday 26 November from 12.30pm, exploring the life of Scottish Playwright, Joanna Baillie and will showcase some of the items found in the Reed Collection that reveal how she fared in London.
Meanwhile, the Baskerville Bible – the first Scottish bible to be published in English rather than Latin, will be proudly displayed as part of our latest Reed Gallery exhibition on the third floor of the City Library.
