(PR.co.nz) Tourism Radio is an audio travel guide that provides self-drive tourists with everything they need in real time while they make their way around New Zealand. With a distinctive local flavor, information is broadcast relevant to the region a tourist is travelling through.
More than a quarter of a million tourists from Western Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada the United States and Australia have used the service since its inception with September through to April the busiest time for the company.
Acting as a virtual tour guide, Tourism Radio uses an integrated GPS system to broadcast content in real time to the location of listeners – all from the comfort of their vehicle. Using a sophisticated IntelliPoint system, Tourism Radio draws the driver’s attention to prominent landmarks and highlights as the vehicle approaches; ensuring tourists don’t miss out on anything New Zealand has to offer.
Tourism Radio launched in November 2008 with five partners and affiliate websites and the company now boasts 22 partners and hundreds of affiliate websites, and all of New Zealand’s leading motorhome companies providing the service to their customers.
Hayden Braddock, Tourism Radio’s Managing Director New Zealand and Australia, says Tourism Radio has made a significant impact on the tourism market in New Zealand.
“We have seen our user numbers increase tenfold since we launched just over two and a half years ago. That’s phenomenal growth for any company, let alone one that launched in the middle of a recession,” he says.
“Tourism Radio is a leader in the field of location-based promotion of tourism businesses, and advertisers are seeing some great results when it comes to the number of tourists going through their doors. It goes to show that location-based promotion is the way of the future.”
Tourism Radio was originally launched in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2005. Due to its success in New Zealand, the company is planning to launch into Australia in 2012, followed by Hawaii and the West Coast of the United States a year or two after that.
