CERA Meetings

( People from homes in Christchurch and Kaiapoi’s worst affected suburbs will be able to get further information about their land and future options at local meetings being hosted by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority.

CERA Chief Executive, Roger Sutton, says venues in Dallington, Avonside, New Brighton, Parklands and Shirley, able to cater for up to 350 people, will be used.

“We’ll hold a series of meetings from tomorrow (Friday) through till next Wednesday in Christchurch and Kaiapoi. We’ll give everyone detailed information about the land in their area and what it means for them.”

“I plan to be at every meeting, along with my staff, to cover the main issues, particularly next steps. We will also have teams of people visiting neighbourhoods in coming days to ensure everyone knows where to go for help.”

“There will be an opportunity for people to use question boxes at the venues and we will also have a web-based question box as well as a dedicated helpline (0800779997). And in the coming days, we will be setting up community hubs where people can talk with key agencies and be linked with support services.”

Mr Sutton says the meetings will include presentations from geotechnical firm Tonkin & Taylor and the Canterbury Earthquake Temporary Accommodation Service.

“There’s a long way to go yet and residents will have plenty of time to absorb information, get answers to questions and plan their next steps.”
