(PR.co.nz) With the 2011 professional golf season coming to a close, the international golfing world has witnessed an exciting year that commenced with young guns Luke Donald, Adam Scott and Martin Kaymer staking a claim on the world rankings. As PGA Tour Q-School was ending and fresh, smiling faces posed for pictures with a 2012 PGA Tour card, Tiger Woods was enjoying his first victory in two years, the beginning of a comeback that will spark fan anticipation for 2012. Among the success stories of 2011, New Zealand is quietly building one of its own. 26 year-old Josh Geary has made a strong case for being New Zealand’s top professional golfer.
Last month at the 93rd BMW New Zealand Open, Geary finished 3rd making him the leading Kiwi finisher in the last four New Zealand Opens. That strong finish marked his third consecutive top-10 finish. As the second highest-ranked Kiwi player in the World Golf Rankings behind Danny Lee, Geary is making steady progress towards the World’s elite players. Geary also racked up three top-10 finishes this year on the Nationwide Tour.
“The Nationwide Tour is a tremendous training ground as it prepares players for the next step of their careers,” said Brad Heaven, Geary’s Manager and Founder of Kiawah Island-based sports management company, Heaven Global Management. “Josh has pushed himself to play a full international schedule this year to benefit from as much competition as possible. With five of the top ten players in the world representing different countries, international competition is crucial for both improvement and exposure.” Based on his success in 2011, Geary has his 2012 sights set on the prestigious European Tour Dunhill Links Championship, a full Nationwide Tour schedule, the World Golf Championships and an Australasian Tour money list exemption straight to the Final Stage of PGA Tour Q-School.
Regarding his upcoming international touring schedule, Geary expressed his excitement, ” I feel like my game continues to improve each year and with a year of valuable experience under my belt on the Nationwide Tour, I like my chances of making the step up to the PGA Tour next season.” Geary will go head-to-head with elite fields and pressure-packed competition in 2012 as he climbs the World Rankings.
