Monaco Resort in International Hotel Awards Finals

(PR.co.nz) Nelson’s Grand Mercure Monaco Resort is a finalist in four categories of the prestigious international H M Awards 2010 for hotel management excellence.

A record 1200 entries were received for this year’s awards from all over Australia, the Pacific and New Zeeland and more than 20 judges were involved in selecting the finalists.

Monaco is the only New Zealand hotel outside Wellington, Auckland or Queenstown to be named as a finalist in any category.

In the Major Awards, Monaco General Manager Clare Davies is a finalist in the hotly-contested New Zealand General Manager category. Clare said she was thrilled with the nomination.

Joining Clare on the list of category finalists are Orangerie Restaurant Head Chef Neil Ward in the best Hotel Chef category, contested by chefs from leading hotels throughout the South Pacific.

Monaco’s Tom Champion is one of only two New Zealand finalists in the internationally-contested Hotel Engineer category.

Grand Mercure Monaco is also a finalist in the New Zealand Regional Property category.

“I’m so excited for the whole team at Monaco. These nominations are really only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to describing how our team has worked together over the last year.

“Despite the pressures of the economic downturn we’ve really showed that we have some exceptional people here at Monaco and these results, among some of the South Pacific’s top resorts, speak for themselves.”

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Sydney on 3 September 2010.
