(PR.co.nz) New online rental marketplace OURTHINGS is asking people to join the sharing economy, building community and reducing wastage in the process.
In a world increasingly conscious of economic sustainability and the issues associated with mass consumerism, ourthings breaks the “buy and toss” cycle with its community rental marketplace letting anyone borrow or loan anything, from anywhere.
Ourthings allows users to post things they are willing to rent or look for things they need but don’t want to have to buy.
“More and more the world is turning to a sharing economy,” says ourthings Founder and CEO Jamie Twigg. “We are ride-sharing with Uber and sharing accommodation through Airbnb, and now ourthings provides a platform to share everyday objects like deck chairs or ladders.”
“All of a sudden that trailer that sits out the back can make you a little bit of money, or you can rent a bike for just the weekend in town,” Twigg continues.
While Twigg’s legal background ensures the contractual side of the rental process covers everything you’d need, it’s his previous work in event management that really inspired ourthings.
“I’ve trundled through websites trying to find the chairs or display units I’ve wanted and been incredibly frustrated by it. The ability to see what is for rent nearby, at what price – quickly and easily – would have made my life a lot easier,” tells Twigg.
“As an online community marketplace, people will not only be able to loan to and rent from their neighbours, but from businesses too. Ourthings simplifies the search, eliminating the time spent running around or comparing websites.”
Twigg has been astonished at the support received so far. Along with a database of 900 local business getting in behind the site early and 100’s of listings in the first fortnight, his world champion sister and female world rower of the year, Emma Twigg, has put her time up for rent. Twigg says “Emma has such great supporters in New Zealand, we put our heads together to figure out how she might be able to give those fans something through the site – the result a ‘1 on 1 Skype with a World Champion!”. Twigg hopes this will lead the way for more creative posting in the future.
