(PR.co.nz) Boutique Nelson winery Rimu Grove has won the prestigious Colin Harrison Memorial Trophy for the best Chardonnay in the region.
Rimu Grove specialises in handcrafting small quantities of high quality wines and its 2010 Chardonnay was the unanimous choice of the judging panel in a recent blind tasting organised by the Nelson Winegrowers Association.
The judges were wine writer Neil Hodgson, NMIT senior Hospitality Tutor Philip Reay and Fresh Choice wine buyer David Jones.
Rimu Grove Winery owner and winemaker Patrick Stowe said he was delighted with the award.
“2010 was a fantastic vintage. The weather was perfect and so was the fruit we brought in.
“I’m really excited by all of the wines we produced in 2010 – it really was a winemaker’s dream.
“There are several other winemakers in the region producing pretty smart wines, so to be singled out from the group is a nice accolade.”
Stowe said his secret to making great wine was simply attention to detail.
“I make wines in a style that I like to drink and I won’t compromise on that.”
Rimu Grove has been making wine since 2000 and produces Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay.
