“Direct Democracy” to be the next “Nuclear Free.”

(PR.co.nz) Barring the nuclear free campaign of the 1980’s, David Ding – leader of political party Thrive New Zealand is predicting that nationwide campaigning for Direct Democracy will unify New Zealanders like never before. “Thrive New Zealand aside, a number of smaller parties and numerous organisations I have been in contact with are supporters of Direct Democracy in one way of another. It is plain to see the public are not only fed up with a government that ignores the will of the people, they are beginning to realise that New Zealand is a far cry from being run as a true Democracy.”

David goes on to point out that the process of electing a government is democratic but once in place, renders the people powerless until the following election. “The fact that a New Zealand citizen can initiate a public referendum, gain consensus support from the people to then be ignored by government raises a huge red flag. It highlights gross imbalance and shows how much the perceived role of government has veered off track from its original intended purpose.”

Thrive New Zealand is presenting a new structure of governance based on natural law and modelled off the eco-systems in nature that thrive the most. David believes that any human system or structure that goes against the laws of nature will always fail. “Science shows us that everything in nature seeks balance and the concentration of power within a very few creates polarity and separation if the people have no vehicle for their voice to be heard and actioned upon. The structure we are proposing will bring balance to our current system by retaining a representative government who are empowered to pass legislation, with everything open to public scrutiny including the performance of the MP’s. This way MP’s will have no choice but to serve the people because if they don’t, they will be replaced by someone that does.”

Thrive New Zealand’s campaign officially launches in early 2014. The party will start floating policy via an online tool called RealVoice which has been designed to electronically facilitate Direct Democracy.
