Domino’s Pizza Donates Thousands to Local Charities

(PR.co.nz) Tens of thousands of dollars has been donated to charities and community groups throughout New Zealand in the past 12 months thanks to the generosity of Domino’s Pizza.

More than $35,000 has been distributed to various sports groups, school and clubs in communities from Whangarei to Invercargill through Doughraisers held up and down the country during the year.

More than $20,000 of that alone has been raised by Domino’s Pizza stores in Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Petone, Wainuiomata and Porirua.

Amanda and Mark Oliver, franchisees of the five stores, say being able to help support the greater Wellington community during the last year has been rewarding for everyone involved.

More than $11,000 has been raised through weekly Doughraisers held at Ms Oliver’s Upper Hutt store, while in May a further $1100 was raised in a combined effort for the Life Flight Westpac Rescue Helicopter appeal.

“Our staff have worked tirelessly to hold these events and make sure that we can raise as much money as we can for any group on any given day,” she says.

“Being able to support such a variety of groups, teams and charities and seeing how grateful they are for every dollar we raise for them has made it all worthwhile.”

Up in Hamilton, Rototuna and Hillcrest franchisees Anton Pires and Arran Clement have also made a considerable contribution to their local community through several Doughraisers. Their support has raised much-needed money for the Cancer Society and the Waikato Family Centre.

“Domino’s Doughraisers are all about getting behind the people and organisations that need ongoing help and support. The groups and charities that we’ve helped this year all do a wonderful job, and we’re only too happy to do everything we can to make their jobs easier,” says Mr Pires.

Other stores around New Zealand have also pulled in some big money that’s gone directly to their local communities.

Domino’s Pizza Whangarei and Domino’s Pizza Gisborne are just two of the stores that hold weekly Dough Raisers, where $1 from every pizza sold is donated to the week’s nominated group.

On top of financial contributions, stores throughout New Zealand have also donated thousands of pizzas to their communities through various schemes such as food banks and sports club sponsorships.

Domino’s New Zealand General Manager Josh Kilmnik says the company has a strong focus on philanthropy and giving back to the communities that support them.

“Our franchisees get such a thrill when they can see the difference they’re making in their communities. We’re helping to foster community relationships that we hope will be around for many years to come,” he says.

Struggling community groups can rest assured that Domino’s Pizza Doughraisers will be back again in 2012, contributing more money to deserving groups up and down New Zealand.
