Departing Health Director-General Well-Wished

(PR.co.nz) The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) is sorry to hear that Director-General of Health, Stephen McKernan, does not intend to seek reappointment beyond his current term.

“Stephen McKernan came into position with established credibility in the sector as one who is sincerely committed to excellent health services delivering real value to all New Zealanders. In the role of Director-General he has built upon this credibility showing a willingness to learn from those directly engaged in delivering health care to find new ways of working in a rapidly changing environment,” said chief executive officer, Geoff Annals.

“Stephen McKernan is a trusted and skilled leader with a real understanding of health. His departure will leave a big gap at a time when genuine, credible leadership is especially needed in a sector facing enormous challenges. We will be very sorry to see him go but of course wish him and his family all the best for the future,” said Annals.

“NZNO looks forward to being consulted on this role and hopes to be involved in the appointment process for Mr. McKernan’s replacement,” said Annals.
