Mangakino Experienced a Unique and Exciting Event in WAKEdUP

(PR.co.nz) FANTASTIC AUDIENCE / GREAT SPORTS / AWESOME PERFORMANCES – WAKEdUP = wakefest 2011 / Mangakino : MUSIC | wake / skate / dirt / air | FESTIVAL

Mangakino experienced a unique and exciting event in WAKEdUP.

800 audience – intimate & with a positive feeling the crowd loved every aspect of the event except some trouble from a minority.

With the biggest acts in New Zealand Drum and Bass WAKEdUP introduced a new concept in a music festival.

Wakeboarding, Skateboarding, BMX Freestyle, MotoX and Paragliding the festival offered a new perspective of excitement and fun.

“This event was epic” says Artists & Repertoire Manager Monty Morgan “the acts were awesome & the crowd loved it all!”

“The crowd were fantastic & the local medics & fire brigade were the saviours on the day with Senjo security keeping the crowd as safe as possible” ” says Event Producer Audrey Holyoake “we are so sorry to have had a bad element drive themselves in & with little support from the Police – they actually closed the party down after we had sorted it out ourselves!”

The weekend was marred by a local gang element which the capable security had in hand until the group numbering a dozen or less decided to set upon a vehicle which suffered some damage to a back window & panels. The group were responsible for a number of assaults & theft & left a sour taste for some unfortunate victims.

Furthermore difficulties with equipment supply to the area stretched the organisation of the event with a lack of delivery & service for toilets, generators & light towers. “We were surprised & disappointed at the lack of delivery from such a reputable company” says Production Manager Aaron Ward.

The event is still getting attention on Facebook & the organisers being inundated with several good comments about the weekend, the vibe & atmosphere.

“We’re taking stock right now & looking at our options for the next one” says JoFF Rae, Producer “we’re excited that people are happy with the results but a little unhappy with ourselves. The effort we had to put in was a major drain on the energy of our crew & our reliable suppliers & we intend reducing that drain. I’m just glad the result has been so positive & that a minority couldn’t change the attitude of our young people. It was like a victory for the light side!”

“The Taupo District is now the alternative sports capital of New Zealand but w do need to consider the safety of our kids in these events” says Audrey Holyoake “we are looking to the next one & considering all the issues of safety & security. Unfortunately we may need consider a new location but we really want to support the good folk of Mangakino.”
