Over The Top Rock Festival in Queenstown

(PR.co.nz) Over The Top Rock – Queenstown, 27 March 2010.

Queenstown, New Zealand is about to launch an exclusive mile-high rock concert – on top of towering Cecil Peak.

‘Over the Top Rock’ is a unique music festival conceived by Queenstown helicopter pilot and owner of Over the Top Helicopters, Louisa “Choppy” Patterson.

Six helicopters will fly up to 160 guests onto the mountain peak above Jack’s Point, on the edge of Lake Wakatipu.

Concert-goers can then rock out to music from local Kiwi band The Lynch Mob in a stunning natural amphitheatre. Drinks and a barbecue lunch will also be provided before the choppers take guests back down to Jack’s Point.

The Lynch Mob will perform a full cover of the iconic Pink Floyd album, Dark Side of the Moon, and other Pink Floyd hits.

At 5028ft or a mile above sea level, Cecil Peak offers a stunning bird’s eye view of The Remarkables mountain range, Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding area.

A top idea

Lynch Mob guitarist Ben Lynch said the idea for Over The Top Rock came about gradually for Over The Top Helicopters owner Choppy Patterson.

Having flown countless guests up onto Cecil Peak to admire the view, Patterson thought the area’s natural amphitheatre would make a great arena for a live concert.

“The basic concept of the day – a rock concert on a mountain top with helicopter access only, makes it something completely different and fun. It combines with all the elements of what makes Queenstown such a great place to visit and more … it’s Over the Top! The whole experience is something that could only be staged in Queenstown.”

Lynch says the event will be held annually from now on, with the next Over the Top Rock scheduled for February 2011. The Rees Hotel in Queenstown is offering special room rates for the event.
