Pick and Mix Arts Programme

(PR.co.nz) Following on from the outstanding success of its inaugural year, Pick & Mix is back in 2010 to offer audiences a taste of the best performing arts from all over Auckland.

A free, family friendly entertainment programme supported by THE EDGE and Auckland City Council, Pick & Mix is designed to give a taste of the performing arts in an interactive, relaxed environment.

In 2009, the programme featured artists from the APO and Royal New Zealand Ballet through to local cultural groups. Each session begins with a 45 minute performance followed by a workshop. During these workshops audiences learnt many different skills including singing, dance, crafts and even circus skills.

Whether you and your family are novices or experienced performing arts attendees, Pick & Mix is perfect and easily accessible for everyone. Comments from last year’s programme included:

“Love the Pick & Mix idea, very smart way to get people interested in attending more performing arts.”

“It was a very fresh, innovative and exciting experience not only for the kids, but also the parents.”

This year, THE EDGE is taking the community aspect of the programme a step further, forming a Pick & Mix programming group. This important volunteer role will decide who and what will be on stage in Pick & Mix 2010.

If you have a keen interest in the arts and community involvement, this is a great opportunity for you to help us create this event, and shape a small but important part of the city’s cultural identity. This opportunity is open to everyone, and an opportunity for audience members to get involved in making decisions about who they want to see performing.

The opportunity is also available for performers to apply to be involved – whether you are a professional company or a community group practising at your local hall, Pick & Mix is a great chance to connect with new audiences.
