Queenstown Winter Games are GO!

(PR.co.nz) The Queenstown Winter Games officially got underway this week, and will conclude on 25 August, 2013. As an important precursor to the 2014 Winter Olympics the event has attracted an impressive contingent of world class athletes from around the world, many using the event as a key step in their campaigns building up to the Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia next year.

The 14 day event will see more than a thousand elite winter sports athletes competing in no fewer than seven World Cup events over the 14-day competition. Local heroes include the well-known Wells brothers, competing in the FIS Halfpipe and Slopestyle events, and Paralympic Gold Medalist, Adam Hall, representing New Zealand in two Alpine Skiing events.

Vice President of Accor NZ & Fiji, Garth Simmons, says while Winter Games NZ only comes around every couple of years, it really is one of the most thrilling activities on Queenstown’s events calendar. Our hotels are wonderfully positioned to cater for the influx of the world’s best snow sports athletes so we look forward to welcoming them together with event representatives and fans to our Sofitel, MGallery, Novotel and Mercure hotels.”

Accor provides four distinct accommodation options in the center of Queenstown – from the well-appointed Mercure Resort and premier 4-star Novotel around the shores of Lake Wakatipu to the subtle boutique feel of Hotel St Mortiz and Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa – there is a hotel to match every taste and budget.

Don’t miss all the action with the Winter Games NZ 2013 and book your accommodation with Accor hotels in the heart of Queenstown, priced from AUD $156 or NZD $179 per night. See http://www.accorhotels.com/hotel-directory/gb/australia-pacific/new-zealand/queenstown/queenstown-hotel.htm.
