World Class Rowing Teams Coming to Taupo

(PR.co.nz) Three world class rowing teams, from Poland, Holland and Switzerland, are competing in the 2010 World Rowing Championships later this month at Lake Karapiro and are basing themselves in the Taupō district.

Taupō’s International Relations Committee (IRC) are organising a warm welcome for the three teams who will be training on Lake Maraetai and Lake Whakamuru and using local facilities during their six week stay.

The IRC are calling all Polish, Swiss and Dutch immigrants living in the Taupō district who would like to be involved with welcoming and supporting the world class athletes from their home countries and their families and support crew.

A Mayoral welcome will be held at the Great Lake Centre on 22 October 2010 to provide an opportunity for our ex-pats to meet and support their fellow countrymen. If you are a Polish, Swiss or Dutch ex-pat and you would like to attend please register your interest with the Mayor’s PA, Sheryll Crawford on 376 0830 or email scrawford@taupo.govt.nz.

World Rowing Championships Developing Nations Manager, Wybo Veldman lives here and is really pleased to see the teams staying in the Taupō district. “It is a good choice for the teams to stay in here as they have access to some great facilities and it is not too far from Lake Karapiro where they will be competing. I know the local community will make the teams and their supporters feel right at home.”
