Run For Your Freak'n Life in Auckland

(PR.co.nz) More than a thousand people will run from the clutches of flesh-hungry zombies in the upcoming 5km obstacle race- Run for your Freak’n Life.

Zombies will be unleased on Saturday 10 May at Spookers Haunted Attraction Scream Park in South Auckland.

With over 40 acres at their disposal, Spookers have set the course through diverse terrain including corn mazes, their own Freaky Forest and the grounds of the old Kingseat Psychiatric Hospital.

Runners will encounter more than 20 natural and man –made obstacles from waist-deep swamps to zombie-infested trenches.

Participants can run in a team of four or six…or take on the zombies alone.

Runners are given a flag belt, which represents their life in the race. Zombies are stationed at each obstacle along the course and will try and weaken their victims by ripping flags off the runners’ belts. Those who finish the race with at least one flag have survived the zombie apocalypse and are eligible for an array of prizes.

Event organiser and Managing Director of Spookers, Julia Watson, says the race attracts a diverse range of people.

“We have marathon runners to ‘I’ve-never-run-5kms-in-my-life’ types. After all, our zombies don’t discriminate!”

She says it is exciting the rate at which the event is growing each year.

“This will be the third year of Run for your Freak’n Life and we’re expecting a big turnout. We just love that so many people are as into zombies and mud as us!”

A variety of teams will compete, from local schools, businesses and sports groups, to international Obstacle Racers.

Costume is encouraged, with a $1000 cash prize to be awarded to the best dressed team.

The event is spectator-friendly, with designated viewing areas to witness the mayhem.

Entries are still open, people can register at www.runforyourfreaknlife.com. Minimum age is 13 years.

Lynn Sheridan, who ran the 2013 race, says she wishes she could do the course every weekend.

“Going for a run has now become very dull without the threat of zombies hiding around every corner.”
