Kiwis urged to heed mobile phone manufacturers health warnings to keep device out of pants pockets and bras

(PR.co.nz) Stop carrying your smartphone device in your pocket, or tucked in your bra, and stop sleeping with it near your head, because it could be detrimental to your health.

“Carrying your mobile phone in your pocket or bra is not even recommended by cellphone manufacturers themselves,” is the blunt advice from the national manager for local electronics retailer Sales Concepts, Mr Ajit Srivastava.

“When you have a moment, pick up your mobile phone and dial *#07#. Your phone will then display the manufacturer’s recommendations for limiting your exposure to the radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) emitted by your device. You will find, for example, that Apple recommends the use of a hands free option, supplied headphones or similar, to limit your exposure.

“Apple also tells you to carry the iPhone at least 5mm away from your body to ensure exposure levels remain at or below tested levels,” said Mr Srivastava, whose company Sales Concepts has made India’s massively successful radiation harmoniser, the CONCEPT® Envirochip®, available here in New Zealand.

The Envirochip® is a patented radiation harmoniser for mobile phones, tablets, WiFi routers and computers and works by disrupting the constant flow of electromagnetic radiation. The technology was originally developed by the Syenergy Environics Ltd company after it was called in to correct high electromagnetic radiation levels at India’s State-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), more than six years ago.

“We don’t even need overseas research studies to tell us that most parents do not know these simple safety instructions, never mind the kids, which isn’t particularly good when you consider that five-year-olds absorb twice as much radiation from mobile phones as adults. The American Academy of Paediatrics recently requested a review of EMF radiation emissions from technology devices because they are concerned about the impact on children.

“If you don’t want to buy radiation neutralising technology like the Envirochip®, you can take still preventative measures to limit your exposure by changing your behaviour. Don’t, for example, keep your cellphones in your pocket, because studies show that this could lead to male infertility,” he said.

Tips for limiting your exposure to radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) include:

* Text more, talk less
* Use a mobile phone mount in your car
* Keep your devices far away from your head when sleeping
* If using your phone as an alarm clock, at least put it in flight mode
* Keep the phone on your desk, not in your pocket
* All mobile phone manufacturers recommend you keep you device in a holster

“If you watch how people behave on the roads, you will notice that many people are keeping their smartphone’s on their laps so they can text while driving, to avoid being noticed by police. Apart from dangerous driving, it’s behaviour that’s also hazardous to your health,” he said.

Mr Srivastava’s call follows growing international uneasiness about the carcinogenic effects of mobile devices and WiFi routers, including moves by one Canadian city to ban Smart Meters provided by power companies, and also moves by another American city – Berkeley – requiring health warnings to accompany the sale of new cellphones.

Earlier this year a group of 190 scientists from 39 countries appealed to the United Nations, UN member states and the World Health Organisation (WHO) to adopt more protective guidelines for electromagnetic fields (EMF) in the face of increasing evidence of risk.
