ANZAC Day Services in Waikato

(PR.co.nz) Anzac Day is our day to honour those who fought in the 1915 battle of Gallipoli and all New Zealanders who have given their lives since, in defence of our country and our freedom.

There are a number of services being held throughout the district on Monday 25 April 2011:

Ngaruawahia

11.00am Civic Service
War Memorial Hall, Galileo Street, Ngaruawahia

A Civic service to commemorate Anzac Day will be held in the War Memorial Hall, Galileo Street, Ngaruawahia.

His Worship the Mayor, Mr Allan Sanson, will preside at this service with Rev Hono Huirama.

At the conclusion of the service, the Hamilton Caledonian Society’s Pipe Band will lead the parade for the march to the Cenotaph via Galileo Street, Jesmond Street, State Highway 1, Waingaro Road and Broadway Street.

At the conclusion of the laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph members of the public are invited to join the RSA members for light refreshments at the RSA, Market Street, Ngaruawahia.

Tuakau

11.00am Commemorative Service
Tuakau Memorial Hall, George Street, Tuakau

Mrs Ann Anderson, Chairperson of Onewhero-Tuakau Community Board will preside at this service and the Deputy Mayor, Cr Dynes Fulton and Mrs Fulton will be in attendance.

At the conclusion of the service, wreaths will be laid before the Plaque at the front of the Tuakau Memorial Hall.

Cr Fulton, Mr Farr and Mrs Anderson will take the salute as the parade marches past.

Maramarua

9.00am Commemorative Service
War Memorial Monument, Cnr Monument Road and State Highway 2, Maramarua

Mrs Sharon Jones will preside at this service with Rev Steve Millwood.

At the conclusion of the service, members of the public are invited to attend the laying of wreaths at the Monument.

A shared morning tea will be provided at the Maramarua Fire Station.

Te Kauwhata

11.00am Commemorative Service
Te Kauwhata College Hall, Waerenga Road, Te Kauwhata

Mr Rob Oakden, Chairman of the ANZAC Committee will preside at this service.

Members of the public are asked to meet outside the Masonic Lodge Hall, Waerenga Road, at 10.30am. The St Kentigans Pipe Band will lead the march to the Te Kauwhata College Hall.

Following the service, the St Kentigan’s Pipe Band will lead the march to the Cenotaph, at the gates to the Te Kauwhata Domain, for the laying of wreaths.

Members of the public are invited for light refreshments at the Te Kauwhata RSA Hall, Mahi Road.

Gordonton

10.00am Commemorative Service
Gordonton Cenotaph and Gordonton Hall -State Highway 1B, Gordonton

The two Churches in Gordonton will together to commemorate Anzac Day to provide an opportunity for the community to come together and honour those men whose names are on the cenotaph and those who have lost their lives in service.

Steve Henry will preside at this service along with Keith Jellyman, The Oaks, Presbyterian Church, and Rosemary Carey, Vicar of St Mary’s Anglican Church, Cr Noel Smith will be attending on behalf of Waikato District Council.

Members of the public are invited to attend the laying of wreaths at 10.00am at the Gordonton Cenotaph. After the formal wreath laying the roll will be called in the Gordonton Hall followed by a short service.

Members of the public are invited to attend a light lunch following the service.

Raglan

11.00am Commemorative Service
Cenotaph, Main Street, Raglan

Members of the public are invited to attend the service and laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph, Main Street, Raglan at 11.00am.
