Bottle Lake Forest Orienteering Day in Christchurch

(PR.co.nz) Explore the Bottle Lake Forest in a new way next month – using a compass and map to navigate some challenging woodland courses during Orienteering Day.

Orienteering Day on Sunday 20 February offers the opportunity and the challenge for anyone who wants to improve their navigation skills or for anyone who loves the outdoors.

Courses vary from beginners through to adrenalin-pumping challenges and starting time is any time between 10am to noon.

The aim is to navigate in sequence between control points marked on a unique orienteering map and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or cycle the course and progress at your own pace.

Participants will be provided with a map. It is recommended to bring a water bottle and a compass.

The Peninsula and Plains Orienteers (PAPO) plan the courses through the forest and assist budding orienteers.

Bring a picnic lunch and relax in the picnic area next to the Information centre while the kids can enjoy the bouncy castle and other great games and activities. Food and coffee vendor on site.

The Bottle Lake Forest Park Orienteering Day is supported by the Christchurch City Council Recreation and Sports Unit, High Country Snow and Outdoors, Silva, Hellers Tasty, Peninsula and Plains Orienteer Club and the Cancer Society.
