(PR.co.nz) A second carpark building will open at Waikato Hospital tomorrow (Monday 23 January) in Pembroke Street opposite the Acute Services Building and the Emergency Department.
The five-level building has space for 218 vehicles and a café. Its main use for the next few months is for visitors using services on the western side of the Waikato Hospital campus – ED, pre admission and clinics in the Waiora Waikato Centre, such as orthopaedics.
From the middle of next year it will service the Older Persons and Rehabilitation building currently under construction in Pembroke St which will have 113 beds for geriatric care, ortho-geriatrics, Organised Stroke Service and Mental Health for Older Persons.
Waikato DHB needed to build the carpark to meet resource consent requirements.
A second carpark building, which opened in 2008, is located at the eastern side of the campus and is the primary parking area for the public. It is open 24 hours a day, can hold over 800 vehicles and provides direct access into the main hospital buildings.
When stage one of the Meade Clinical Centre opens later this year, many clinics and day procedures housed in the centre will link directly to this carpark building.
