Ngati Ranginui Iwi responds to Christchurch call for help

(PR.co.nz) Ngati Ranginui Iwi Society Incorporated will be coordinating a drop-off centre for the collection and dispatch of donated items to various agencies that are assisting those whanau (families) affected by the recent devastating earthquakes in Christchurch.

Te Runanga o Ngati Ranginui Iwi Chairman, Huikakahu Kawe says that in response to a call that the Society received for Iwi to step in and aid where they can “Ngati Ranginui are responding to that call”.

The Society invites donations of non-perishable foods and items such as blankets, baby items i.e. nappies and formula, any items that you might find you do not need, that can be donated to the Christchurch whanau who need as much support as we can give.

The drop-off centre will be located at the Society’s offices in the Old Tauranga Post Office Building on Willow Street during 8.30am and 5pm, Monday – Friday.

The Iwi has also made a cash donation to the Ngai Tahu Charitable Trust fund to be used to further assist whanau/families in the affected region and will be looking at other areas that Ngati Ranginui can provide relief support.

“Our thoughts go out to all those who have been affected by the Christchurch earthquakes – Kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui – Stand strong, stand tall and be of great heart”.
