Help for Home Owners That Are Having a Leaky Home Crisis

(PR.co.nz) Every day in New Zealand homes are being built, and many of these new houses end up as a leaky home. This problem is not just relevant for cities like Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch but also here in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

The Director of Corrective Building Services Ltd, Mike Gilling, said that the problem is that many home owners don’t realise it that they could potentially be living in a leaky home.

Gilling said he has seen numerous homeowners that have suffered emotional and financial distress due to owning a leaky home.

“Corrective Building Services is helping home owners with the necessary tools and resources to make sense of the problem,” he said.

Being a Weathertightness Surveyor and appointed Assessor with the Department of Building and Housing, Mike Gilling and his team has offered to do a leaky homes check on Hamilton and surrounding areas houses that were built in the past 10 – 15 years for leaks.

“Whether or not your house has obvious leaks, you can never be certain until you have it checked by a professional,” he said.

Figures from the Department of Building and Housing has received 6455 claims lodged for 8782 properties and completed assessments for 9275 properties, as at 30 June 2011.

Corrective Building Services will do a check on your home, and advise you if there are any problems. If your home has a leaky problem, Gilling and his team will help you with the process of compiling and submitting your claim to the Department of building and Housing.
