Kilbirnie Mosque Open Day

(PR.co.nz) Saturday 12 September 2015, 10am – 3pm
7-11 Queens Drive, Kilbirnie

Haven’t met a Muslim? Want to know more about Islam? Never visited a mosque? Here is your chance to address all three!

As part of Islam Awareness Week, the Kilbirnie Mosque is opening its doors and its cupboards to Wellingtonians – not only can you talk to Muslims, learn about Islam, and see what is beneath the minaret but you can also:
• Try on Muslim clothing – how DO you tie a hijab?
• Write your name in Arabic calligraphy
• Have traditional henna hand-painting
• Watch videos
• Eat food from some of the 40+ ethnicities that make up our Wellington Muslim community, and buy their crafts.

The posters, information stalls, displays and personal guides will help you learn about the basics of Islam, and understand the Islamic perspective on life and topical world issues, while the kids enjoy:
FREE CANDYFLOSS!!! A JUMPING CASTLE!!! FACE-PAINTING!!! GAMES!!!

This year’s theme is “SERVING HUMANITY”– hear from Muslims young and old about their views of “Serving Humanity” and how Islam prepares them to look after the needy people and humanity.
Pamphlets, DVDs, booklets and much more will be on display – you are welcome to take these with you to read/watch in your own time. You will also be able to talk to Muslims and ask them questions directly, about their beliefs, their lives, their histories and their hopes.

We are part of the New Zealand community – we now invite you to be part of ours, even if only for a day!

Ahlan wa sahlan (kia ora) to the Kilbirnie Mosque!
