Luxury Otago Central Rail Trail Package

(PR.co.nz) An iconic New Zealand hotel is encouraging people get out, get active and hit the Otago Central Rail Trail with a taste of luxury at either end.

The multi-award-winning Eichardt’s Hotel has partnered with premium cycle tour company Off The Rails to offer the Eichardt’s Rail Trail Package.

The package includes two nights at Eichardt’s and four days on the trail with fully supported tours featuring top quality bikes, heritage accommodation, transport, breakfast and afternoon teas and the real character of Central Otago in New Zealand’s scenic South Island.

The luxury package is available to guests staying in both the main hotel building, originally constructed in 1872, and family groups or groups of friends in the nearby Eichardt’s Lakefront Cottage, which opened in October 2008.

“Autumn and early winter is the perfect time of year to get on your bike, hit the trail, and combine a healthy, outdoors and active holiday with a luxurious stay in the heart of Queenstown at either end,” said Eichardt’s General Manager Victoria Shaw.

“It really is a great opportunity to get the best of both worlds; an authentic Otago Rail Trail experience with two nights in an historic property that features five opulent five-star suites or our nearby cottage with its boutique self-catering luxury for families and groups.

“This is the first and longest rail trail in New Zealand and many of those who have already enjoyed some or all of the 150km-long trail have been full of praise for the stunning scenery, ranging from mountain passes, hills and gorges, through historic gold mining villages and over weathered viaducts and bridges.

“Marry that with Eichardt’s absolute lakefront location, period character and contemporary elegance and you have the perfect break.”

Ms Shaw said the Government’s announcement that it was investing $50milion over three years in a national cycleway reflected the growing popularity of cycling holidays, and Prime Minister John Key’s announcement last month of a programme aiming to give every primary school child in New Zealand access to a bike and bike track within school grounds showed its commitment to getting young people and their parents more active on a regular basis.

The Eichardt’s Rail Trail Package starts from: NZ$2,414pp (double or twin share) and children under 12 are NZ$1,503pp.

The Otago Rail Trail, which follows the old Otago Central branch railway line from Clyde to Middlemarch, can be accessed year-round.
