Nelson Company Sails Into National Yachting Award

(PR.co.nz) Nelson yachtmaster and accomplished sailing tutor John Moore has scooped the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) award for New Zealand Sailing School of the Year.

James Stevens, RYA United Kingdom presented the award, which was contested by all RYA sailing schools throughout the country. Neil Murray from the New Zealand RYA said that Sail Nelson had a fabulous record of performance over the last five years and the award was well deserved.

Mr Moore who founded Sail Nelson in 2004, comments “The RYA syllabus teaches sea safety at sea and gives practical skills for the enjoyment of both tourists and New Zealanders in the Abel Tasman National Park and across the Nelson region. Traditionally navigation and sea safety has been taught as a theoretical classroom subject and my experience is that it is becomes alive, and the understanding of knowledge is faster when applied on a practical course on the ocean”. Mr Moore adds, “People that come aboard gain new skills and the experience enhances their life and their self belief. It’s great to give a positive and enjoyable experience”.

The awards ceremony held at Richmond Yacht Club on Westhaven Marina highlighted the value of RYA sailing courses, which are the most recognised sailing certifications around the world and are taught in over forty countries.
John Moore was born in Nelson and raised sailing the waters of Tasman Bay, where most of the sailing school courses take place. He has unparalleled knowledge of the area and coupled with his sailing expertise made him a worthy winner.
