Matakana Region set for Housing Boom

(PR.co.nz) Once a quite farming down with a school and a couple of shops, Matakana has transformed into a getaway for city dwellers craving a rural fix.

With it’s popular Saturday morning markets, stylish cinemas and newly refurbished Pub, Matakana is now undergoing significant residential development.

In the Auckland councils 10 year plan, the Warkworth area has been air-marked as one of the countries largest areas of growth. Farm Land has been subdivided around Warkworth and Matakana, and many new home builds have already been completed.

This has come about largely through the extension of the Northern gateway highway, which currently ends at the tunnels before puhoi. The extension of this highway, which will feature an off-ramp at Warkworth is set for completion within the next 5 years.

Local Warkworth Builder, Mike Bronkhurst, comments that the announcement of the highway extension coincided with a flood of new home building projects.

“Prior to the extension a lot of the local builders were struggling for new work – but these days, we struggle to keep up!”

The local community does hold concerns about this rapid growth, with weekend traffic building significantly around Warkworth and Matakana over the past few years.
