NZ Society of Genealogists Introduce Family History Month

(PR.co.nz) The New Zealand Society of Genealogists Inc (NZSG) introduces New Zealand Family History Month which will be in August each year. This year the theme is ‘Make a Start”.

To celebrate the New Zealand Society of Genealogists Inc is running a special offer to encourage the public to begin exploring their past for the month of August.

During the week of 22 – 27 August, everyone who visits the Family Research Centre situated at Level 1, 159 Queens Road, Panmure with a friend, gets in for free.

“There’s a lot of curiosity out there about family history, but people can get put off because they just don’t know where to start,” said Christine Hurst, Library Supervisor at the Family Research Centre [FRC]. “We’re so fortunate that we have so many volunteers who have done their own family history research so they are very aware of the problems and pitfalls, and are willing to offer anyone who visits the benefit of their experience.”

“At the FRC we have a lot of resources for research, not just in New Zealand, but all over the world. There are drawers of microfiche, CD ROMs, books, maps, access to pay-per-view websites and lots of free advice to get people started.”

This is a great opportunity for members of the public who have been both curious but a little tentative about making a start on their family history. With free entry and free advice on offer, it’s a perfect place to come to find out what we have available, where to find more information, how to search and who to ask those tricky questions that inevitably arise.

The FRC is open from 10am to 4pm Mondays, Wednesday-Saturday, with an evening session from 4-8pm on Wednesdays.
