The government is introducing measure to make taxis safer. From 2011 it will be mandatory for taxis in larger towns and cities to be fitted with security cameras.
The southern half of the Newmarket Viaduct replacement project is due to be opened early; six months ahead of schedule. The early delivery will be a relief for the 160,000 motorists who travel over that stretch of motorway.
Figures show 101 drivers have been charged under the new drugged driving laws, making the new law a success.
The Minister of Transport for New Zealand, Steven Joyce, says the final road toll over the Christmas and New Year Holiday period for 2009-2010 is a good sign following the recent introduction of new laws banning cellphone use, drugged driving and illegal street racing.
