Whitebaiters Ignoring Health Warnings Following Earthquake
Whitebaiters are ignoring warnings to cease fishing in sewage contaminated Canterbury rivers following the earthquake. Whitebait, fish and shellfish taken from sewage-contaminated rivers, river mouths or estuaries, including the Waimakariri, Selwyn, Heathcote, Avon, Halswell and Styx rivers could cause serious illness.
Geotechnical Report following Canterbury Earthquake
The geotechnical report delivered by engineers to the Earthquake Commission states that the majority of land can and will be fixed. Gerry Brownlee has issued a timeline leading to public release of information. Information from the geotechnical report will be released in conjunction with decisions on what will be done to address the damage in each affected area, so as to minimise stress to residents.
Demolition of Unsafe Buildings Following Canterbury Earthquake
Two earthquake damaged buildings in Christchurch are likely to be demolished as they pose an immediate danger to the safety of people. The Acting CEO of the Council will issue warrants for the demolitions, under section 129 of the Building Act 2004.
